FIDM Grad Chosen for Fashion Incubator SF Program

Lv-incubator29_P_SFC0106291365_part6The San Francisco Chronicle reports that FIDM Graduate Tony Sananikone (pictured, front) a womenswear designer, window stylist for the Gap worldwide, and GenArt Fresh Faces in Fashion winner in 2004, will join the new Fashion Incubator San Francisco program, sponsored by Macy's West, beginning March 5, 2012.

Designers will rent a fully equipped sewing workshop at Macy's and work with fashion, business and retail experts to build their brand. Tony, who was born in a political refugee camp in Bangkok where he learned to sew, is currently working on his first collection of Art Deco-inspired dresses.

FIDM SF to Host FASHION+TECHSF Career Workshop

2852847945-2FASHION+TECHSF presents Mentors & Apprentices, a career workshop and a networking event for the fashion, technology, and creative industries in the SF Bay Area. Business owners who work in fashion, marketing, technology, art, and design related professions will introduce their businesses and/or products, explain what they do, discuss their industry challenges and the nature of their internship opportunity, followed by a Q&A session. Mentors will then be available to meet and interact with participants and for additional informational interviewing.

Students, entrepreneurs and those interested in additional career options are highly encouraged to attend. Internship opportunity and requirements are determined by each mentor and will vary. Resumes recommended.

FIDM Instructor Shows at SF Fashion Network

Violetta Vieux, FIDM San Francisco Fashion Design Instructor, participated in this year’s SFBA Fashion Network Fashion Show SNOW, along with the Bay Area’s leading couturiers. In keeping with the show’s all-white theme, Violetta showed bridal gowns from her French Couture Design Studio, VioGemini label. The Moldovan native, who interned at various couture houses in Paris, teaches draping and pattern-making classes at the California fashion design school.

Blogging Panel Next Week at FIDM SF

On Thursday, February 2, 2012, from 6pm to 8pm, five savvy bloggers and online media specialists will share their expertise for "Why Blog? Ask Experts How to Amplify Your Online Presence" at FIDM San Francisco. Bloggers include Adelle McElveen of FashionistaLab.com, Erin Hagstrom of CaliVintage.com, Ashley Gustafson of FashionablyAshley.com, Lorraine Sanders of SFIndieFashion.com, and Sinead Norenius of iFabbo.com.

The panel is open to FIDM Students and Alumni, and the general public. A networking session and refreshments will follow.

FASHION+TECHSF Fashion Business Workshop Tonight at FIDM SF

Fashiontechsf01192012teaserflierThis evening, from 5:30pm to 8:30pm at FIDM San Francisco's 5th floor Conference Room, there will be a workshop, "Applying Mobile Tech Strategies for Your Fashion Business," hosted by the San Francisco Fashion and Merchants Alliance, Inc. and FASHION+TECHSF. Tickets are $10 here or at the door.

Learn how to create or apply mobile apps and do integrated marketing. The three-hour workshop and social mixer is a great opportunity for emerging designers, small business owners, app developers, and students. Stylematic, ShopNear.me, and Manpacks are a few of the participating companies.

Alumna is the Buying Director for New Bridal Website I Do Jour

Picture 1Merchandise Product Development Alumna Roxanne Olsen is the Buying Director for the new bridal magazine and e-commerce site, I Do Jour. In October, Roxanne had the chance to meet fellow FIDM Alumna and Project Runway winner Leanne Marshall, during New York Fashion Week and a collaboration was born.

"Leanne has teamed up with us and designed an exclusive dress just for our website and our customers," reports Roxanne, who like Leanne, attended the SF campus. The website also offers gowns, accessories, jewelry, shoes, and more.

Visual Communications Student Places in Sephora-Sponsored Contest

Picture 1FIDM San Francisco Student Florence Tang placed third in the Visual Merchandising category of PAVE's 2011 Student Design Competition, sponsored by Sephora. FIDM Instructor Teresa Lehane ran the project in her Advanced Digital Imaging class.

In addition to winning a $1,500 prize, she was invited to and will attend the 15th Annual PAVE Gala at Cipriani Wall Street in New York, along with Department Coordinator Lisa Hoffman.

San Francisco Alumna's Gown Featured in California's Remarkable Women Exhibition

CRW1 The curator of The California Museum in Sacramento invited FIDM San Francisco Alumna Colleen Quen to be part of California's Remarkable Women, a new exhibition opening on October 10, 2011. Colleen's "Madame Butterfly" dress will be on display for the next year, along with her portrait and bio.

From farm worker organizer Dolores Huerta to astronaut Sally Ride to designer Ray Eames, the exhibit includes approximately 200 remarkable California women. Inspired by former First Lady Maria Shriver, the exhibit is presented in partnership with California State Parks.

SF Campus Librarian is Guest Speaker at Charity Launch Event

2011background_Large4 SF Campus Librarian Adam Elsholz is a distinguished guest speaker for the Discarded to Divine Designer Orientation launch event on October 1, 2011 at California College of the Arts in San Francisco.

Discarded to Divine features a collection of one-of-a-kind fashion creations and exquisite  home decor created from disgarded clothing and materials, benefitting the St. Vincent de Paul Society's services to people battling poverty, homelessness, and domestic violence.

FIDM particpates in the event each year.
