FIDM San Diego recently welcomed Fashion 5.0 Magazine for an on campus presentation. The local magazine put together a short video clip of the visit.
On November 2, 2011, the full-service digital marketing and technology firm Digitaria presented, "Digital Trends in Design, Entertainment, and Social Media" at the San Diego campus. The successful event drew Alumni, Students, Faculty, and industry pros.

"Digitaria’s hip headquarters is the 12th floor of DiamondView Tower in downtown San Diego, but the third floor of our building, home to the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising’s San Diego campus, is hands down the building’s trendiest. Bright colors, open design, plush comfortable furniture, a library and large outdoor seating area -- what’s not to like?"
Recently Accepted Visual Communications Student Akriby M. Lopez has a passion for FIDM and the fashion industry. She hopes to one day organize runway shows and photo shoots for leading designers and plans to pursue a masters in New York City after graduating from FIDM.
"Every single event, course, characteristic, activity, and opportunity that FIDM has is a dream come true. I can't see myself anywhere else and I haven't even started my first year at FIDM. FIDM, I truly believe, fits me perfectly from head to toe. One specific jaw dropping fact about FIDM is its support and involvement with each individual student. The application process was so different, and by different I mean amazing."

A class from the FIDM San Diego campus visited the neighboring Digitaria, a marketing and technology company, where they met with Creative Director Paul Drohan who engaged the group in conversation about branding, design, and community involvement.
Merchandise Marketing Alumna Minet Taylor was recently on the San Diego campus, with her sister Natalie, as a guest speaker. The sisters have recetnly opened a men's and women's boutique called Dolcetti, located in the Gaslamp District. The boutique has been featured in San Diego magazine and Fashion 5.0.
On Tuesday, July 19, 2011, learn about the latest in eco-friendly textiles, materials, and trends at FIDM San Diego's Materials Conference. Guest speakers include Alison Rojas, Menswear Product Developer for PrAna, one of San Diego's leading companies in the area of sustainability and Scott Shearer, Development and Sourcing Manager for Accessories and Footwear at Volcom, Inc.
Find out how Alexandra Hart's sophisticated and artful couture jewelry and metal sculpture is made in the USA from 100% recycled and refined metals and ethically sourced gemstones and FIDM's Textile/Interiors Manager Kristine Upesleja will discuss the latest in innovative and sustainable eco-friendly materials and textiles.
Don't miss the Beyond Bamboo exhibition on display in the library. Curated by Kristine Upesleja and Cynthia Aaron, Beyond Bamboo contains the latest in cutting-edge and sustainable fibers, fabrics and materials, such as fabrics made from coconut, banana, milk protein, used coffee grounds, and crab shells, to name a few.

Mark Tesi, Senior Global Art Director for Roxy, made an inspiring visit to FIDM’s San Diego campus on Wednesday. The seasoned art director shared his Roxy experiences as well as tips from an extensive list of topflight companies like Quiksilver, Virgin Mobile, Radio Fiji, Leilani, Microsoft, Zoo York, Patagonia, Prana, and Abercrombie & Fitch. He discussed current projects, highlights from his varied career, and then generously opened the floor for an extended question and answer session with enthusiastic design, merchandising, and visual communications students of the fashion college.
Riviera Magazine has coverage of the seven FIDM Fashion Design Students who participated in a live draping competition to benefit the Princess Project, which provides prom dresses to low-income teens. Jake Avila (pictured, at right) won the judges over with his Black Swan-inspired gown.

Future Visual Communications Student Victoria Ceballos is already styling photo shoots at age 17 in her native San Diego.
"FIDM will dig me deeper into understanding how this industry works as far as the visual aspects and merchandising. FIDM will also give me the experience I need in hopefully getting an internship with a huge company and getting in contact with significant individuals who see the dream that I see in what I plan on becoming."
