D.Thompson pic As a Senior Designer of Home Fashions at Sears Holdings, FIDM Merchanidse Product Development Grad Donald Thompson is in charge of all design for Kmart Soft Home, which includes bedding, curtains, rugs, bath, throws, and more! "My responsibilities include guiding the overall design store of the entire soft home category, delegating workload, and managing timelines among my team of seven designers," says Donald. "FIDM helped prepare me for this career by exposing me to many sides of the industry at once."

Photo As a Technical Designer for Louis Raphael and all their current private label customers, Merchandise Product Development Alumna Leilani Cruz wears many hats, from preparing technical spec packages to construction procedures. "FIDM gave me the tools, skills, and confidence to land me my dream job," says Leilani, who started as an intern thanks to the Career Center. "It's all been a dream come true and it's all thanks to FIDM and the amazing people there!"

Window Display Showcases Work by Product Development Students

SF6thFr_description The adorable displays above feature work by Merchandise Product Development Students who completed the Apparel Process II course on FIDM's San Francisco Campus.  The course teaches students the basic principles of garment construction and fit--necessary skills for success in the product development field.

SF6thFr_Win03_aThe display concept, "La Maison de FIDM," is that of a harried servant waiting while his young ingenue tries on several dresses before making her final selection. The concept was developed and executed by students in the Visual Communications Program.
