Product Development Grad Named VP of U.S. Wholesales for True Religion

Congratulations to Merchandise Product Development Alumna Sarah Lassek, who graduated from FIDM in 2001! She has been appointed Vice President of U.S. Wholesales at True Religion Apparel. According to a press release issued by the company, Sarah "will be responsible for the direction of the Company’s U.S. Wholesale business, including managing and growing its Major and specialty boutique accounts." Sarah's previous experience includes working for BCBG Max Azria and St. John's Knits. Read the press release.

Interview: New FIDM San Francisco Student Kathleen Donohue

You might be surprised at how many FIDM Students have degrees from other colleges. San Francisco Merchandise Product Development (Professional Designation) student Kathleen Donohue is a great example. She has a BA in Economics and an MBA from Trinity College in Dublin. Add to that an impressive resume with over ten years as an Information Technology consultant. Even with all those achievements Kathleen is most proud of her decision to attend FIDM. Merchandise Product Development Alumna Keeping Busy in Hollywood

Merchandise Product Development alumna Talia Derksen has found her niche in the entertainment industry. "I have recently been working steady in the costume department on films," says Talia, who was head costume designer on the upcoming film Bones, which is currently in consideration for the Sundance Film Festival."I get to dig deep into every character and really get to know them. I love seeing the characters come to life."

She is currently on the set of The Holiday House, which will air on Lifetime in December and worked on the surfing film Beautiful Wave, which is expected to debut in 2010.

FIDM Alumna Fernanda Carneiro Wins Design Competition

Brazilian native and Merchandise Product Development alumna Fernanda Carneiro worked in production and design for major fashion labels like BCBG before striking out on her own in 2008. Fernanda (above in pink) was recently announced as one of the winners of The Los Angeles Emerging Designer Competition presented by The City of LA, the Department of Cultural Affairs, and Downtown LA Fashion Week, where she will show her collection. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa was on hand for the exciting announcement.

She's been involved in her school's Business and Profession Academy for two years. In her senior year she was involved in the L'atelier Fashion Show 2009: History 101. Read the interview.

FIDM Grad Donald Thompson is Senior Designer of Home Fashions at Sears Holdings

As a Senior Designer of Home Fashions at Sears Holdings, FIDM Merchanidse Product Development Grad Donald Thompson is in charge of all design for Kmart Soft Home, which includes bedding, curtains, rugs, bath, throws, and more! "My responsibilities include guiding the overall design store of the entire soft home category, delegating workload, and managing timelines among my team of seven designers," says Donald. "FIDM helped prepare me for this career by exposing me to many sides of the industry at once."

Merchandise Product Development Alumna is Technical Designer for Louis Raphael

As a Technical Designer for Louis Raphael and all their current private label customers, Merchandise Product Development Alumna Leilani Cruz wears many hats, from preparing technical spec packages to construction procedures. "FIDM gave me the tools, skills, and confidence to land me my dream job," says Leilani, who started as an intern thanks to the Career Center. "It's all been a dream come true and it's all thanks to FIDM and the amazing people there!"
