Interior Design Grad Goes Behind the Camera

Interior Design alumna Julien McRoberts is surrounded by her field of study as an accomplished interiors photographer. "I have worked with Kathy Ireland Worldwide, top interior designers in Sante Fe, and have a wonderful spread coming out in April's Santa Fean magazine featuring the home of the renowned artist Carol La Roche," says Julien, who works with clients in California, Arizona, and New Mexico (including projects for fellow FIDM grad Kathleen Greenberg of KMG Interiors). "It's been my pleasure to reconnect with her."

Chairing Styles Featured On Cover of DIGITAL OUTPUT Magazine

A matching chair and dress from FIDM's Chairing Styles 2008 exhibition were featured on the cover of Digital Output magazine's Dynamic Media Award Winning Design issue. The industry magazine lauded the innovative use of digital printing in FIDM's most recent collaboration among Textile Design, Fashion Design, and Interior Design students, adding that it "illustrates how digitally printed textiles can translate to fashion and furniture."

FIDM Receives Two Awards for the Forever Fashionable Beach House

Orange County's HomeAid, a community based organization that builds and renovates housing across the entire homeless continuum of care spectrum, held its 18th Annual Project Playhouse, featuring scaled down houses designed by local talent. W Custom Homes, Hove Design Alliance, Lifescapes, Ransom Group, and FIDM teamed up to design the Forever Fashionable Beach House, which features vintage Brazilian cherry hardwood flooring, Venetian plaster walls, and a convertible playroom for children. The beach house won two awards, The Imagination Award and the The Grand Award - Second Place. Congrats to all involved! You can read more about the project and team here.

Event Coverage: Alumni Interior Design Panel

 

 

 

The latest FIDM Alumni Association panel shone the spotlight on Interior Design. The event, held at Look Gallery in the L.A. Mart, featured panel guests Hagy Belzberg of Belzberg Architects and FIDM Grads Meg Joannides, Heather Gallagher, Nicole Federico-Martinez, and Alison K. Pollack. Attending were FIDM Students and Grads eager to discuss such topics as eco-friendly design and ideas for surviving and flourishing in today's challenging economic environment. Following the panel and Q&A, panelists and guests were able to mingle for one-on-one networking. 

Interior Design Alumna Designs Stunning Italian Kitchens and Baths

Interior Design alumna Nao Sudo, who also received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from FIDM in 2008, has an exciting career as an interior designer with Desart Imports in Los Angeles. Known for distinctive and innovative Italian designed kitchens and baths, Desart offers designs that are modular, functional, and simply beautiful. "Each day is very different so sometimes I go to job sites, have meetings at the showroom, make estimates, take care of general admin stuff, and of course design too," says Nao, who grew up in Tokyo and has been with Desart Imports for three and a half years. "I love going to a client's house to see the finished product."

FIDM Interior Design Students Build a House for Charity

Three lucky Interior Design Students are helping design the "Forever Fashionable Beach House", one of nine unique playhouses to be auctioned off for HomeAid Orange County's Project Playhouse® Charity, which benefits homeless families.

FIDM Interior Design Students Mark Griffin, Erin Carrere, and Olivia Sibert are currently working alongside some of Orange County's top builders to complete the playhouse, which will be on display at the Irvine Spectrum Center this fall.

FIDM Grad to Star on A&E Design Series “Keyshawn Johnson: Tackling Design”

FIDM Interior Design Alumna Baiyina Hughley of Quirky Living will appear as Design Assistant on A&E Network’s new original design series Keyshawn Johnson: Tackling Design. The series follows the day-to-day drama of former NFL wide-receiver and current ESPN analyst Keyshawn Johnson as he embarks on a very different career path in Interior Design. Interior Designer Baiyina Hughley was selected to collaborate with Keyshawn on 10 residential projects to be featured on the half-hour design series premiering July 11, 2009 on the A&E network. Baiyina works with residential clients and retail stores desirous of eclectic, modern, and chic spaces that fuse a modern British and Southern California design aesthetic.

Interior Design Students Renovate Art Center for Boys and Girls Club

 

FIDM Interior Design Students were mentored by FIDM Instructor and nationally-renowned Interior Designer Richard Herb during their pro bono renovation of the Art Center for the Boys & Girls Club of Venice, California. Read more about the renovation here.

CHAIRING STYLES Exhibition Preview

FIDM's annual Chairing Styles exhibition is a unique collaboration between Textile Design, Fashion Design, and Interior Design Students. Here is a sneak preview of this year's collection, which will premiere at the DEBUT Runway Show this weekend. The matching fashion and furniture will then be on display in the FIDM Museum & Galleries.
