Visual Communications Alumna Jessie Zinkie's Intimates Line

Visual Communications alumna Jessie Zinke (pictured left), who co-founded the fashion forward intimates label Zinke with her sister Arin Robinson, was recently featured in Tulsa World. Stocked at top shops such as American Rag and Fred Segal, Zinke features silk, lace, and color in their camisoles, rompers, boy shorts, and babydoll dresses.

Fantastic Mr. Fox Costume Contest Winner is FIDM Alumna Tiffany Kline

Gen Art and Fox Searchlight recently asked young filmmakers and designers to create a short film on how to make a Halloween costume based on one of the characters from Wes Anderson's upcoming film, Fantastic Mr. Fox. FIDM alumna Tiffany Kline participated in this contest and is one of four winners. One lucky team will win a bonus cash prize of $1,000.

Torrid's House of Dreams Event at FIDM

Torrid, the wildly popular plus size retailer, recently held their House of Dreams Model Search event On the Park at FIDM Los Angeles. The seven lucky winners came to L.A. from all over the U.S for a VIP experience that culminated with a runway event that featured Torrid fashions and couture dresses from FIDM Fashion Design students. 

 

Through October 10, fashion fans may bid on these dresses with the proceeds going to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. You can learn more about the FIDM designed "Power of Pink" dresses on the Fashion Club blog. "We were so impressed by the work that the FIDM students did and thank them for their hard work and dedication on this project," said Torrid president Chris Daniel.

FIDM Alumna Fernanda Carneiro Wins Design Competition

Brazilian native and Merchandise Product Development alumna Fernanda Carneiro worked in production and design for major fashion labels like BCBG before striking out on her own in 2008. Fernanda (above in pink) was recently announced as one of the winners of The Los Angeles Emerging Designer Competition presented by The City of LA, the Department of Cultural Affairs, and Downtown LA Fashion Week, where she will show her collection. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa was on hand for the exciting announcement.

Kat Von D Wears FIDM Alumna Courtney McEntire's Jewelry

FIDM alumna Courtney McEntire sent tattooed superstar Kat Von D some samples from her Trash and Treasures (T.N.T.) line. Much to Courtney's surprise, Kat donned a feather necklace on L.A. Ink and to the 2009 Teen Choice Awards.

"Kat recently dyed her hair platinum blonde and uploaded new pictures on her website and lo and behold there was my necklace!" Courtney exclaims. "Your first bit of press is always the most thrilling and I'm stoked that she loved them!"

Kevan Hall Featured on "America's Next Top Model"

On Wednesday night, designer Kevan Hall was featured on America's Next Top Model. The 11 remaining models (who are all under 5'8") participated in their first runway show for the designer at a private event in Malibu.

FIDM Grad Styles Natalie Coughlin for "Dancing With the Stars"

FIDM alumna Niki Shadrow styled Olympic swimmer Natalie Coughlin for the premiere of Dancing With the Stars. "She looked chic and glamorous," said Niki. "She really worked it!" Natalie wore fellow FIDM grad Yotam Solomon's "Lila" dress and a Positively Bold By Niki Shadrow necklace.

Fashion Design Grad Opens fiveloaves twofish in San Diego

Fashion Design grad Kit Frye is debuting her women's and children's boutique, fiveloaves twofish, at Liberty Station in Point Loma this weekend. The grand opening will take place from 12pm to 6pm on September 26 and September 27.

Along with her sister Heather, Kit will offer classes in sewing, pattern making, fashion illustration, painting, and recycling at the store.

Drew Barrymore, Toni Collette, and Mila Kunis Wear Monique Lhuillier to the Primetime Emmy Awards

At Sunday evening's 61st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, Drew Barrymore wore a stunning Monique Lhuillier gown in a soft blush color. The tulle strapless gown featured a structured bodice and full skirt with lightly beaded trim. People called Barrymore one of Emmys Best Dressed Stars!

Family Guy's Mila Kunis also chose Lhuillier for the awards ceremony, donning a belted wine-colored dress featuring tulle overlay.

Best Actress in a Comedy Series winner Toni Collette stunned crowds in a red embroidered organza strapless gown with a pleated bustline by the designer.

Yotam Solomon Designs On "America's Next Top Model"

Designer and FIDM grad Yotam Solomon designed all of the apparel for the models (who are all under 5'7" this time) on the season premiere of America's Next Top Model. The pieces were from his fall 2009 collection (Yotam recently showed some new designs as part of Fashion's Night Out in NYC last week).
