FIDM Grad Chosen for Fashion Incubator SF Program

Lv-incubator29_P_SFC0106291365_part6The San Francisco Chronicle reports that FIDM Graduate Tony Sananikone (pictured, front) a womenswear designer, window stylist for the Gap worldwide, and GenArt Fresh Faces in Fashion winner in 2004, will join the new Fashion Incubator San Francisco program, sponsored by Macy's West, beginning March 5, 2012.

Designers will rent a fully equipped sewing workshop at Macy's and work with fashion, business and retail experts to build their brand. Tony, who was born in a political refugee camp in Bangkok where he learned to sew, is currently working on his first collection of Art Deco-inspired dresses.

FIDM Instructor Shows at SF Fashion Network

Violetta Vieux, FIDM San Francisco Fashion Design Instructor, participated in this year’s SFBA Fashion Network Fashion Show SNOW, along with the Bay Area’s leading couturiers. In keeping with the show’s all-white theme, Violetta showed bridal gowns from her French Couture Design Studio, VioGemini label. The Moldovan native, who interned at various couture houses in Paris, teaches draping and pattern-making classes at the California fashion design school.

Picture 1FIDM Instructor Ron Pastucha helped create the fashion spread on pages 94 to 102 in Locale Magazine. This issue features a Monique Lhuillier dress on the cover as well as in the spread Ron worked on.

Picture 1Merchandise Product Development Alumna Meredith Grier is an Assistant Designer for Honeydew Intimates. The first group that she designed was bought by Nordstrom and Dillard's and photographed by Stylesight. Look for Meredith's product in stores in May.

Alumna Opens Naomy & Adrian Boutique in Newport Beach

Picture 2Apparel Industry Management Alumna Naomy Kim is the owner of the new boutique Naomy & Adrian at Westcliff Court in Newport Beach. The shop, which stocks lines such as Ted Baker, Fresh Laundry, and Eternal Sunshine Creations, has already been featured in Greer's OC and Locale Magazine. "I see the OC fashion scene being more diverse, full of energy, and a laidback attitude towards life," says Naomy, a knitwear designer who sells her own line of sweaters and scarves.

Apparel Industry Management Grad is Lead Designer for Raven + Lily

RavenLillyApparel Industry Management Grad Lori Fox (pictured, right) is the lead designer for Raven + Lily, an Austin-based company whose motto is "Empowering Women Through Design."

"I started out as a volunteer with Raven + Lily during my time at FIDM. My passions included design and humanitarian work so my purpose for going to FIDM was to see if these two things could come together," explains Lori, who recently moved back to her native Texas after a decade in L.A.

"I first learned of the issue of human trafficking while in Thailand in 2005, and was heartbroken by the issue and wanted to do whatever I could to help women get out of this situation and create jobs to keep them from being vulnerable."

Sarah Michelle Gellar and Paula Patton Wear FIDM Grad Lhuillier to Golden Globes

Actress Sarah Michelle Gellar chose a voluminous Monique Lhuillier blue and white tie dye gown with a structured bodice and full skirt to the 2012 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night in Beverly Hills. She told reporters that her two year-old had a hand in picking out the winning look. Lhuillier, a graduate of the fashion school FIDM, has designed red-carpet and wedding gowns for many top celebs, include Angelina Jolie.

Mission Impossible star Paula Patton brightened up the red carpet in a strapless, ruched canary yellow fit and flare style gown from the designer, who is a Graduate of FIDM. Pre-show reports already favored Patton as one of the evening's best dressed.

Just Accepted Fashion Design Student Has a Jewelry Company

Picture 2Just Accepted Fashion Design Student Jademoon Seltz is already designing and selling her jewelry through Wicked Treasurez.

"My mind is set in a world of creativity. Since early childhood I have been attracted to activities that allow me to express myself. These activities have shaped who I am in different ways. I am a performing and competition dancer. I also have a love for the culinary arts. Music is another area of interest and has strongly impacted my life. I have grown up playing the piano, singing, writing, and recording myself and others."
