FIDM Alumna Worked on Oscar-Nominated Film The Artist

Kaitlynn worked under the direction of  Production Designer Laurence Bennett and Set Decorator Robert Gould. She is the first Graduate from Entertainment Set Design & Decoration to receive an on screen credit for an Oscar nominated film in Art Direction.

Alumna Nominated for Costume Designer's Guild Awards

MV5BMzY0MTM3ODc2Nl5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNTY4Nzc2Ng@@._V1._SY317_CR12,0,214,317_FIDM Alumna Jill Ohanneson, who has worked on shows such as Dexter, Lie to Mie, and Six Feet Under, is nominated for Outstanding Contemporary Television Series at the 14th annual Costume Designer's Guild Awards  for her work as the costume designer on Revenge.

The awards are set for Feburary 21, 2012, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. Good luck to Jill!

Grad is a Finalist for Fashion Group International's Rising Star Awards

Picture 1The Fashion Group International named FIDM Grad Steven McDermott, the designer behind Stevie Mac New York, a Rising Star finalist in the women's ready-to-wear category for its 15th annual Rising Star Awards. Designer Ralph Rucci will present the award at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City on January 26, 2012.

Visual Communications Student Places in Sephora-Sponsored Contest

Picture 1FIDM San Francisco Student Florence Tang placed third in the Visual Merchandising category of PAVE's 2011 Student Design Competition, sponsored by Sephora. FIDM Instructor Teresa Lehane ran the project in her Advanced Digital Imaging class.

In addition to winning a $1,500 prize, she was invited to and will attend the 15th Annual PAVE Gala at Cipriani Wall Street in New York, along with Department Coordinator Lisa Hoffman.

FIDM Students Sworn into Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society

FIDM congratulates the new Phi Theta Kappa members sworn in at today's ceremony: Rebecca Reller, Sahar Ahwazi, Stephanie Wong, YuNuen Beristain, Kaitlyn McGuire, Nicole Antonian, Jacqueline Haus, Chealsea Madden, and Brittany Chynces. Founded in 1918, Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society that recognizes and encourages academic achievement and offers opportunities based on their four hallmarks: scholarship, leadership, service, and fellowship. Candidates must have completed twelve units at FIDM with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher to join. Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in American higher education.

Ahmad Murtaza Wins Cotton, Inc. Demands of Denim Scholarship Competition

Recent FIDM Fashion Design Graduate Ahmad Murtaza was awarded $10,000 in scholarship funds for his entry in Cotton Incorporated's Demands of Denim competition, open exclusively to FIDM Students. Ahmad graduated last quarter and plans to apply to FIDM's Advanced Fashion Design program.

Participants in the Demands of Denim competition were challenged to research the denim marketplace to determine current trends and understand the denim consumer and then develop an innovative denim design. Over a period of six months, the students attended workshops to expand their knowledge of denim--from construction and fit workshops to dyeing and finishing techniques. Congratulations, Ahmad!

Theatre Costume Design Grad Wins at LA Cinema Festival of Hollywood

Unnamed FIDM Theatre Costume Design Graduate Mikael Sharafyan recently won Best Costume Design for the film Disasteroid at the Los Angeles Cinema Festival of Hollywood. The film will screen on October 12, 2011 at Whitefire Theater in Sherman Oaks.

FIDM Wins Two Canstruction Awards

6a00d834555dcb69e20153919b6593970b-200wi At the Orange County Canstruction Awards Gala on Sunday night, FIDM took home the People's Choice Award and Best Meal Award for the amazing handbag that was created from 9,500 cans. The sculpture is currently on display at South Coast Plaza through September 25, 2011.

FIDM Receives Top Honors as Military Friendly School

"The list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universitites, and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s service members and veterans as students," reads the press release.

FIDM Student Jason Tenorio knew he wanted to do something art-related after the Marines. This fall, he starts FIDM's Fashion Design program. Read an interview with Jason.
