Industrywatch: E-Commerce Start Up Stresses Sustainable Fashions

San Francisco-based e-commerce start up Cuyana has raised $1.7 million based on a business model that emphasizes quality over quantity. Like the slow food movement in the food industry, the "Lean Closet" idea seeks to reeducate consumers to shop for affordable, sustainable, unique apparel and accessories rather than loads of quick trends and disposable fashions. As co-founder Karla Gallardo explains to Venturebeat: "The lean closet encourages people to buy a smaller number of well-made items rather than large quantities of cheap products that perpetuate unfair working conditions and harm the environment."
