When celebrated Swedish designer Greta Magnussan Grossman moved to Los Angeles she was quoted as saying that all she would need was "a car and some shorts." She must have brought along her design notebooks as well. She rose to prominence in the 1950s as that rare female designer/architect who could build a California modernist home, and the furniture and textiles to fill it. This small show at the sweet Pasadena Museum of California Art (tucked just off Colorado Blvd.) features her sketches, the furniture, lamps, textiles, and objects that are her legacy—still looking extremely contemporary and inspiring.
Greta Magnussan Grossman: A Car and Some Shorts is at the Pasadena Museum of California Art, 490 East Union St. Pasadena, CA 91101, 626.568.3665, till February 24th.
