FIDM Graduate Leanne Marshall's Latest Looks

IWFW-day-1-260

Last month, Project Runway winner and FIDM Alumna Leanne Marshall showed off her latest pieces at Islands of the World Fashion Week in Nassau. The Bahamas Weekly has a story on the Leanne:

Her style, inspired by nature, architecture and modern innovation, made its home at this year’s Islands of the World Fashion Week (IWFW) as the highlighted showcase for the opening night of the three-day event.

As the line’s showing progressed, softer pastel colors and lighter fabrics started to emerge contrasting the bold beginning, mixed in with more structured black and white dresses – a clear indication of Marshall’s graphic designer background.

"I Survived Finals" by FIDM Fashion Knitwear Student Adelle Burda

Finished 2nd garment-back In my last post I was writing about the panic and exhaustion that comes during finals.  During the actual last week of finals though I somehow morphed into something else: driven.  I just had so much to do that I became very focused and would not let myself be swayed or distracted.  It worked, and now I feel calm, relaxed and pretty okay with how everything turned out.  Here is a picture of one of my knit garments; the vest though still has some tweaking before I can show you the final product.

Holiday2009 119

FIDM's Career Center and Student Activities brought holiday cheer to the children of Las Familias del Pueblo this holiday season. The children took part in arts and crafts projects such as cookie decorating, coloring Christmas pictures, and making Christmas cards.  Santa (aka FIDM Alumnus John Urquiza) arrived just in time to give each child a special gift and take photos with them.

Ralph's donated the sugar cookies that were decorated and enjoyed by the children. Special thanks also to the Career Center staff, Lyn Tobman, and Fashion Group International's Los Angeles chapter for their generous donations for the purchase of wool scarves and pashminas to be gifted to the men and women of the Angeles Home for Seniors by the children of Las Familias del Pueblo.

Las Familias del Pueblo is a non-profit community center serving garment workers and their children in the Los Angeles Fashion District.  At Las Familias, children participate in after school programs and receive assistance with homework.

New FIDM Student Blog by Cassidy Saitow

Cassidy FIDM Los Angeles Student Cassidy Saitow practiced law for three years before deciding to follow a creative path and study Merchandise Product Development.

"This past Saturday I volunteered at a horseback fashion show in Malibu.  It was a combination of socially conscious fashion, horses, and a killer view of the ocean from the venue – what more could a girl want?!  The designer was Prophetik (prophetik.com).  Their brand essence is “wearable philosophy.”  The philosophy is to create fashion that has a social meaning, which then will translate to an aesthetic meaning."

Find out more about Cassidy and watch her video of the Prophetik fashion show.
