FIDM's Environmentally Conscious Exhibit Goes Beyond Bamboo

The FIDM Library recently presented an enticing range of environmentally conscious textiles and materials for fashion and interiors during the innovative exhibition Beyond Bamboo, which traveled to FIDM's Campuses as well as to locations across the Atlantic.

It was a great opportunity for students to gain exposure to the myriad of eco-friendly materials and sourcing options that will be available to them as fashion knitwear designers, product developers, interior designers, and other fashion and interior industry careers.

The exhibit was curated by Kristine Upesleja, FIDM's Materials Workroom Manager who gave us a tour of the unique collection. A favorite piece was the eye-catching garment made of fermented red wine bacteria (bottom) as well as the wired for sound dress (2nd from top), constructed from cassette tape. Fabric and yarn utilized everything from banana to coconut and corn. For more information on this collection, contact Kristine Upesleja at FIDM Los Angeles.
