I really love this interview with Merchandise Product Development student Mei-Li Thomas, founder of the blog No Fear, Just DIVA. She has some great things to say about her experience at FIDM (she graduates this year) and some valuable, heartfelt advice for both prospective and current FIDM students. Read the interview with Mei-Li.
You might be surprised at how many FIDM Students have degrees from other colleges. San Francisco Merchandise Product Development (Professional Designation) student Kathleen Donohue is a great example. She has a BA in Economics and an MBA from Trinity College in Dublin. Add to that an impressive resume with over ten years as an Information Technology consultant. Even with all those achievements Kathleen is most proud of her decision to attend FIDM. Find out why in our latest interview.
Merchandise Marketing alumna Hailey Roose (pictured above with Tim Gunn) recently won the Free Press Make It Work contest, which included a private audience with the Project Runway mentor. Hailey, who was recognized for being a "Stylemaker" met Gunn at a fashion show that drew 2,000 people. "I don't like to look like everybody else walking down the street," Hailey told the Detroit Free Press.
Professor Xavier Chaumette
FIDM Students were treated to a fascinating lecture and Q&A session from expert Xavier Chaumette, Co-Director of Fashion Design at Mod'Art International in Paris. He gave an overview of the history of fashion from 18th century to contemporary times with a focus on the evolving role of women in society and its impact on clothing. (Did you know, for instance, that Coco Chanel introduced the first jackets for women that had pockets?)
"Xavier has collaborated with FIDM for over 20 years on special projects and serves as a guide during FIDM's Study Tours to Paris, providing insight into the history of the city as well as where--and where not--to shop," explains FIDM's International Director Lanie Denslow. Xavier is also the author of The History of the Women’s Suit and Textiles for a Century of Fashion and a contributing editor to the International Dictionary of Fashion Design.
There's a new Style Scoop interview with Film & TV Costume Design alumna Eva Frederickson, who has an exciting career costume designing for shows such as How I Met Your Mother and America's Best Dance Crew!
