New FIDM Merchandise Product Development student Courtney-Marie just graduated from Taft High School in
Woodland Hills, CA. She's been involved in her school's Business and
Profession Academy for two years. In her senior year she was
involved in the L'atelier Fashion Show 2009: History 101. Read the interview.
Back in June, we told you about the charitable competition, CANstruction, which benefits the OC Food Bank. FIDM Graphic Design students at the Orange County campus are constructing the high heel shoe and here's a sneak peek at the progress!

Interior Design alumna Nao Sudo, who also received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from FIDM in 2008, has an exciting career as an interior designer with Desart Imports in Los Angeles. Known for distinctive and innovative Italian designed kitchens and baths, Desart offers designs that are modular, functional, and simply beautiful. "Each day is very different so sometimes I go to job sites, have meetings at the showroom, make estimates, take care of general admin stuff, and of course design too," says Nao, who grew up in Tokyo and has been with Desart Imports for three and a half years. "I love going to a client's house to see the finished product."

FIDM Students, Faculty, and Staff had the opportunity to hear from fashion insider and author Tom Julian when he visited the Los Angeles campus to sign copies of his book Nordstrom Guide to Men's Style.
More than 100 FIDM Grads and industry folks gathered at The Target Terrace at The GRAMMY Museum at L.A. Live for the first Visual Communications Alumni Mixer with special guest hosts from Saks Fifth Avenue. "It's exciting because it's bringing everybody back together," said Director of Visual Communications and Career Development Advisor Cynthia Patino. "It's so beautiful up here and we've got two alums who work for the Grammy Museum." Attendees enjoyed tasty fare from Wolfgang Puck Catering and cocktails while taking in the stunning views of Downtown.

New Apparel Manufacturing Management, Professional Designation Student Carla Buchanan holds a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism. (She was the first female radio sales manager in Orange County, CA, KWIZ AM/FM in 1985!)
The clothing she designs has been featured in national publications such as Altered Couture, Belle Armoire, Sew Somerset, Apronology, Somerset Life and Stampers Sampler and she won two first place ribbons and one second place ribbon at the 2009 Orange County Fair.
Dialogues, FIDM's alumni publication, was awarded four awards of Excellence from the University & College Designers Association. This year, close to 1,300 entries were evaluated, with the organization awarding 257 awards in total. The last two issues of Dialogues, Volume 2, Issue 1 and Volume 2, Issue 2 were both awarded in the category of Alumni Publication and in the category of Magazine - Complete Unit. Both issues were designed by FIDM Graphic Design Alumna Bri Emery, who also writes the blog Design Love Fest.
