Tim Gunn Talks about Project Runway's Los Angeles Location

FIDM Los Angeles is Project Runway's new West Coast location and the stars, Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum, couldn't be happier about their show's new home in L.A.

"Los Angeles is indisputably the home of the red carpet. It's the home of film and television costume, and it has a celebrity dimension that New York doesn't have. Watching the first elimination this season, I thought, Wow, we should be here," Project Runway's Tim Gunn told Entertainment Weekly.

Project Runway: Season 6 premieres August 20th on the Lifetime network.

The list of former Project Runway winners includes FIDM Grad Leanne Marshall. Contestants have included FIDM Instructor and Grad Nick Verreos and FIDM Grads Kelli Martin, Santino Rice, Daniel Franco, and Guadalupe Vidal.

Billabong Director of Merchandise Speaks to FIDM OC Students

Students at the FIDM Orange County campus were recently treated to a discussion with Billabong Director of Merchandise Lydia Ballesteros. Lydia took students step-by-step through the entire design process, highlighting the interaction that takes place between the Merchandiser and Designer. She emphasized that good communication and compromising are keys to finding success.

FIDM Alumnae Launch a Jewelry and Accessories Line

FIDM Graduates Nathalie Jamar and Dena Blankmeyer have come together to launch d.LAINE, a jewelry and accessory line that incorporates materials from years gone by. Their mission is to "make green beautiful, to find new life in the old, to connect creators of every kind, to generate honest, innovative, works of art that stand for beauty and nature." Their well-priced line features necklaces, rings, bracelets, earrings, and bandeaus.

FIDM Alumna and Students Come Together to Benefit Childrens Hospital L.A.

FIDM Alumna Niki Shadrow recently produced and styled "The Bash of All Bashes," a charity event in support of Childrens Hospital Los Angeles Play Therapy Fund held at Beverly Hills' famed Crustacean restaurant, and FIDM Students served as dressers for the fashion show from Fred Segal Fun.

"This was one of the best experiences I had volunteering for a fashion event while at FIDM," says student Eunice Oh. "It was a pleasure!" The charity event was hosted by Rumer Willis (at right) and featured a special performance from Nikka Costa and DJ Steve Aoki.

Grad Johnny Corona is a Finalist in Brides Magazine's "Dream Dress" Competition

FIDM Grad Johnny Corona has the chance to see his stunning bridal creation (at left) on the cover of Brides Magazine! As a finalist in their "Dream Dress" national design competition, Johnny has reached the top 20, but he needs your help to get to the top five.

The top five are voted on by the public and the designers will be flown to New York for a runway show where the winner will be named. The winner's dress will be on the cover of the magazine.

Four FIDM Alumni Hit Jamaica for the 2009 Celebrity Caribbean Golf Invitational

Next month, the Celebrity Caribbean Golf Invitational, which is held in Montego Bay, Jamaica, will get an injection of style. In addition to celebrity guests and honorees, participants for the Fashion Show component include Alexander McQueen, Converse for John Varvatos, Walter Baker and FIDM Graduates House of Howe by Jade Howe (at right), Dena Burton, Michael Herrera's M...The Movement, and Jene Fuchs' Thomas Wylde.
