Leanne Marshall and Juicy Couture Featured in Elle Magazine

Watch the streaming webcast of the FIDM DEBUT 2009 Runway Show exclusively on FIDM.edu this Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 8pm [PST].  This annual extravaganza is a runway show featuring fashion collections designed by the Advanced Fashion Design Students, costumes created by the Advanced Theatre Costume Design Students, as well as work from students in Interior Design, Graphic Design, Digital Media, and Textile Design Programs.

FIDM Grads Wow at the Oscars!

Actress Virginia Madsen, an Oscar nominee in 2005 for "Sideways", graced the Academy Awards red carpet in an elegant red sculptural gown from Kevan Hall. Made of luxurious silk and wool razmir, the gown was specially designed for the actress.

Meanwhile, Robin Wright Penn looked glamorous while celebrating Sean Penn's Best Actor win in a black Monique Lhuillier gown that featured a draped neckline.

CHAIRING STYLES Exhibition Preview

FIDM's annual Chairing Styles exhibition is a unique collaboration between Textile Design, Fashion Design, and Interior Design Students. Here is a sneak preview of this year's collection, which will premiere at the DEBUT Runway Show this weekend. The matching fashion and furniture will then be on display in the FIDM Museum & Galleries

Grads Design Inauguration Gown

FIDM Alumnae Stephanie Verrieres and Kimie Sako of Oakland, California label Verrieres & Sako, designed a plum taffeta, hand-ruched gown for Alejandra Campoverdi to wear at the Inaugural Ball last month. Campoverdi is dating President Obama's speechwriter Jon Favreau (not the actor/director) and she met the designers through mutual friends. You can read more about the gown in the S.F. Chronicle here.

Verrieres & Sako recently lent the same dress to S.F. event planner Jenny Georges and the gown was nominated by the San Francisco Chronicle as "The Best Dressed" at the S.F. Ballet Gala. With 2,166 votes cast on SFGate.com, 36 percent of the thumbs up went to Jenny and Verrieres & Sako! Congrats! -- Victoria

FIDM Alumna M'chel Bauxal Makes Up Dakota Fanning

For the last 14 months, FIDM Alumna and celebrity makeup artist M'chel Bauxal has been working on the new animated film Coraline, which is a 3-D, stop motion, animation film. Why would an animated film need a makeup artist? M'chel has made up the cast and crew for various publicity, including electronic press kits, DVD footage, and for the web.

Dakota Fanning, shown here with M'chel, voices the main character in the film, which opens on Feb. 6!
