Smithsonian Legacy Award Gala Video Montage Featuring David Rodriguez

FIDM PROUDLY CONGRATULATES Fashion Designer David Rodriguez, a recipient of the Legacy Award from the prestigious Smithsonian Institute, which chooses a different Latin American country each year for their special exhibition and event. The FIDM Grad was honored along with other Mexican and Mexican-American artists in fields such as Architecture, Literature, Design, and Film. 

Best known for clothing celebs such as Kirsten Dunst, Eva Longoria, Heidi Klum, Carrie Underwood, and Oprah Winfrey and creating pieces for Friends, Sex and the City, and The Devil Wears Prada, Rodriguez also made Hispanic Business magazine's "100 Most Influential" list. FIDM Grad Named CEO & President of Spyder

FIDM Fashion Design Grad Jake Jacobs has been promoted to CEO and President of Spyder Active Sports, a leading global ski-wear and outerwear brand. "He's positioned [Spyder] for continued expansion, including the addition of a year-round product offering and launching a business strategy that includes future flagship retail stores,"  announced the company's press release. FIDM Grad Wins Emmy for 'Jane Eyre' Costumes

FIDM Merchandise Marketing Grad Andrea Galer won an Emmy on Sunday for Best Costume Design for the PBS Masterpiece Theatre miniseries adaptation of Jane Eyre. The miniseries is now available on DVD and costumes from Jane Eyre are currently displayed in the FIDM Museum & Galleries in downtown Los Angeles. --Kim

Ugly Betty star America Ferrera wore a stunning gown designed by FIDM Grad Monique Lhuillier when she picked up her Best Actress in a Comedy award at this year's Emmy's. The gorgeous star won another coveted award last night--she made People magazine's Best Dressed List! --Kim

Highlights from Alexis Phifer's NYC Fashion Week Debut





The New York Post has great pix of the latest looks from FIDM Fashion Design Program Grad Alexis Phifer's line Ghita, which she debuted at New York Fashion Week yesterday. Her fiancé, hip-hop star Kanye West, flew in to sit front-row at the show and attend the after-party. (The designer is pictured above in the bottom photo.) --Kim

FIDM Grad Monique Lhuillier's latest line, which she debuted at NYC Fashion Week yesterday, is nothing less than sweet perfection. Style.com reports:

"With pastel visions of Ladurée macaroons dancing in her head, Lhuillier was in a sweet and delicate mood. "I wanted to embrace femininity," she said after the show. In contrast with last season's set, which featured a giant architectural curl of brushed steel suspended over the runway, Spring's had a painted backdrop of porcelain flowers..."

Randolph Duke & FIDM Students Get 'Hot In Hollywood' for Charity!

ABC's Red Carpet Fashion Commentator, Fashion Designer, and FIDM Grad Randolph Duke recently challenged five FIDM Students to makeover thrift store clothes for the second annual Hot In Hollywood charity fundraiser auction for HIV/AIDS.

FIDM Fashion Design Students Angela Avanesyan, Richard Chan, Julia Chumak, JustinHih18072007012 Green, and Erin Helgerson met Duke's fashion challenge, which included shopping at L.A.'s Out-of-the-Closet and Salvation Army thrift stores where they chose the clothing to be repurposed. 

The benefit was held at the historic, Henry Fonda/Music Box Theater. Emmy-nominee Jaime Pressly (My Name is Earl) hosted the cast of Hollywood actors who presented at the event. --Kim
