Our Latest Accessory? A New Jewelry Design Program

Jewl_timeless_gems_cop3_2 Students in FIDM’s sparkling new Jewelry Design Program will learn how to design and produce finished jewelry through actual hands-on experience. Our Jewelry Design Studio, near FIDM's Los Angeles Campus, is located in the heart of one of the largest jewelry districts in the world. The program offers an opportunity to learn both the creative and manufacturing processes of jewelry-making from talented designers andJewl_timeless_gems_d9b other professionals. Included in the program are courses in general studies, creative design, training in technical skills, manufacturing methods, current technology, and gemology—everything a future Jewelry Designer will need to succeed in this multi-billion dollar industry!

"As a mother of two and designer by trade, I started Penny & Maude in an effort to spice up my kids' closets," said Jolene Garcia, Owner and Designer of Penny & Maude. "My original mantra was to create 'cool T's for funky kids,' but thanks to the popularity of the t-shirt line,we've been able to branch out into totes and accessories as well."

FIDM Students Are Finalists In Hollywood Reporter's Student Competition

The finalists for The Hollywood Reporter's 6th annual Key Art Awards Student Competition were announced at a special reception on FIDM's L.A. Campus last week. FIDM Students Melissa Wong (Print) and Meme Ellis (AV) were among the finalists for this prestigious scholarship award. Melissa Wong's striking entry, a poster for the hit movie Walk the Line, is pictured above.

"The quality of this year's student entries is absolutely incredible, and we're thrilled to be able to showcase and honor such brilliant work," said John Kilcullen, Publisher of The Hollywood Reporter. "This unique competition connects students with key players in the Hollywood creative community, and I believe that many of the finalists, if not all, will be Key Art Award nominees in years to come."

Winners will be announced Friday, June 15th at the Beverly Hilton. Watch this space for more information, plus check back to view finalist Meme Ellis's movie trailer! --Kim
