FIDM Grad Speaks to Students about Career as Film Costume Designer

Pic19169 FIDM Graduate and Film Costume Designer, Mona May, recently spoke to a Film & TV Costume Design class on FIDM's Los Angeles Campus. May has created costumes for some of our very favorite romantic comedies including Clueless, The Wedding Singer, and Never Been Kissed.

May's most recent costumes are for the upcoming film Enchanted, starring Patrick Dempsey (of the hit t.v. show Grey's Anatomy) and Amy Adams. --Kim

FIDM Alumni Honored for Making a Difference

Labusiness_journal Not one but two FIDM Graduates were honored for their achievements in business as well as their outstanding work in the community at a recent luncheon sponsored by the L.A. Business JournalVani Kumar and June Durr were among the 200 nominees for the 16th Annual Women Making a Difference Award.

Vani Kumar, an Apparel Manufacturing Management Grad, is owner of the Suit Closet, a boutique specializing in women’s suits.  “I thank FIDM.  The professors are in the industry and they taught me that I have to find a niche.  I wanted something more than another retail store.”

June Durr
received her degree in Merchandise Marketing.  “I really give accolades to FIDM for establishing the high level of excellence that makes everybody want to achieve it and reach it and keep it, because it does make a difference!” --Angel

She's Got Hollywood Covered

M1_3 It seems like Niki Shadrow has done it all: event production, lifestyle consulting, fashion show production, and celebrity styling for stars like Paris Hilton, the Pussycat Dolls, and Amanda Bynes. So it only makes sense that she has now become a prominent Hollywood personality and is the Life & Style Editor for Hollywood Covered Magazine.

So how did she get here? “FIDM is an environment for creative minded and eclectic individuals and having a degree from FIDM gives you instant credibility in the fashion industry,” says the Merchandise Marketing Grad. “To be a part of a school that is focused around the first thing I am thinking about when I wake up every morning was a euphoric feeling.”

Recently we showed you the behind-the-scenes "making of" the Fender Guitar Project. Now watch the Fender Runway Show at this year's Debut 2007 Fashion Show, where the custom-designed guitars by FIDM Graphic Design Students are carried down the runway by models wearing rock star outfits created by FIDM Fashion Design Students. COSTUME DESIGNER and FIDM Grad Marlene Stewart's latest project was the recent romantic flick The Holiday, starring Jude Law, Jack Black, Kate Winslet, and Cameron Diaz.
