In an exciting
development, Textile Design students designed the fabric for this year's chic FIDM "Chairing Styles” exhibition. Each year students from the Interior Design and
Fashion Design programs collaborate directly with manufacturers to develop a
matching chair and clothing ensemble, both made from the same upholstery
fabric. In past years the “Chairing Styles” designers have used fabrics from
Marimekko to denim. This year, FIDM is partnering with Cotton, Inc., who will be
producing the fabric designed by students in the Textile Design program. It's a
great opportunity for the students to apply the skills they learn in the
classroom to the real world while exploring the relationship between the three disciplines…
furniture,
fabric design,
and fashion. This unique exhibit will be unveiled at
FIDM’s “Debut 2007” Fashion Show and Gala Event. “Chairing Styles” will be on
display at the FIDM Museum & Galleries after Debut. --Kim
